Fake Apple stores found in China

Fake apple store front

Ever since the story broke three days ago, the web has been alight with stories about the fake apple stores found in Kunming city, China.  The story was broke by an American blogger (living in Kunming city) on her blog http://birdabroad.wordpress.com/.

First impressions would have you believe that the shops are in fact official Apple stores.  The store was packed with Apple products, featured the usual winding staircase and the staff were kitted out in blue Apple t-shirts and name tags.

On closer inspection somethings just don’t seem right.  The walls were painted badly and the iconic spiral stairs were poorly made.  The storefront was also sporting a sign saying “Apple Store” when genuine stores use only a glowing apple.  Since the original article was first published Apple have confirmed the stores are fake and an investigation has been launched.

Since the story broke it has quickly been picked up by the world’s media and the story has been covered by the BBC and NewYorkTimes as well as many more.
